The Archetypal Pattern Inventory

A twelve-archetype instrument in the tradition of Jung and Carol Pearson's Awakening the Heroes Within. It doesn't sort you into one type — it maps which archetypal patterns are most active in you right now, across the three stages of the individuation journey.

This is a well-person instrument. It measures the salience of ordinary human patterns — not disorder, deficiency, or fixed identity. Archetypes shift across a lifetime; a low score simply means that pattern is quieter in you today. Answer for how you actually are, not how you'd like to be.

Tip: use keys 1–6 to answer and ⌫ to go back.

Your Archetypal Profile

The stories most active in you

Your profile is a constellation, not a single label. The wheel below shows all twelve patterns; the three brightest are the archetypes currently shaping how you see and move through the world.

Psychometric appendix

This instrument follows the structure of the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator: twelve archetype subscales, six items each, clustered developmentally into Ego (Innocent, Orphan, Warrior, Caregiver), Soul (Seeker, Lover, Destroyer, Creator), and Self (Ruler, Magician, Sage, Jester). Items are original (clean-room) and mapped to each archetype's core motivation. They are administered round-robin so the factor structure stays blind during response, with balanced keying — three forward and three reverse items per subscale, so uniform high responding resolves to the 3.50 scale midpoint on every archetype rather than inflating any score.

Scoring is ipsative-leaning: because archetype salience is relative, your ranking carries more signal than any single absolute score. Each subscale mean (1–6) is banded within your own profile — Dominant, Active, Latent, or Dormant.

Internal-consistency reliability (Cronbach's α) estimated by Monte Carlo simulation: single-factor model per subscale, forward-item loadings .68–.74 and reverse items modeled at a lower loading (.60–.64) to reflect method variance, reverse-scored before α is computed, across N = 2,000 synthetic respondents:

These are simulated values for a clean-room instrument, not norms from a standardization sample. Treat the results as a mirror for reflection, not a clinical measurement or a fixed verdict.
